Great weather, great food,
great company, great entertainment. All were present
as the Lake Pleasant - Sacandaga Association (LPSA) held its
annual summer picnic at the Village Pavilion on August 12,
2007. Besides the food, fun and entertainment, the
picnic served as the annual meeting of the LPSA and
necessary business of the organization was carried out.
Bob Stubbs was the Chairman
of the event. He worked with Swifty's Restaurant who
catered the food. Michelle sang for an enthusiastic
audience and she even got Bob to do a duet with her.
Michelle has sung for many years and has her own CD's.
She has played roles such as Tuptim” in The King and I,
Elsa” in the Sound of Music and “wicked witch” in the Wizard
of Oz - all local productions by the Mountain Arts
Consortium. Many commented on the great talent she was
and lots mentioned the talents of “Barbershop” Bob.
LPSA President Bob Camoin
explained to the group the structure and goals of LPSA.
He talked about the many projects LPSA worked on in 2007.
The main one is the support of the Lake Steward program and
the organized monitoring of the five lakes included in our
area. This year, Lake Pleasant was surveyed by Steve
LaMere, a professional well know for his work. While
the full report is not back, the initial report indicated
Lake Pleasant is in good shape. The study is rotated
on a three year plan, Lake Pleasant one year, Sacandaga the
next, and the three smaller lakes (Oxbow, Whittaker and
Echo) the third.
Other projects for 2007
included the successful drive to have a village dock;
completion of Senior Citizen's building by adding flower
boxes to the painting done last year, building more refuse
containers for the Village area, funding some of the flowers
in the Village, funding a Hamilton County WWII veteran's
trip to Washington DC, and helping fund the Nathan Littauer
golf tournament, the July 4th parade and the
production of Anne of Green Gables.
Within our own group we
sponsored the spring luncheon and the summer picnic, a tour
of local homes, a cruise on the Fulton Chain, and a new
program of a “welcome wagon” from LPSA to newcomers to our
community. The major
program for 2008 will likely be working on a Village Park.
Preliminary plans have been discussed and a final decision
on when and how to proceed will be made soon. Again
this will be in cooperation with the Village and the Town as
well as the general population of the area
Bob conducted an election of new members to the Board of
Directors, the eighteen member body that runs the
organization during the year. New Directors included
Diane Corvetti; Chris Finkle; Robert Carr; Dwight Jacobson.
