LPSA says goodbye to  Directors and  Welcome aboard new Directors

Thanks to Retiring Directors

The LPSA Board of Directors and the whole organization have benefited from the service of retiring Directors Paul Wilbur and Peter Simola, in addition to Sally Livingston who had extended for one year. Paul was (and continues to be) a true outdoorsman who stimulated many a couch potato into vigorous hikes, while contributing in a variety of ways to the overall attractiveness of the area and the experiences it offers. Peter has provided wise counsel and unflagging attention to lake quality issues, most recently being a leader in efforts to address the low water levels in Lakes Pleasant and Sacandaga. Both have indicated their willingness to continue as committee members, and the LPSA is the better for it. Thanks!

Thanks to Sally Livingston

The LPSA owes a big thank you to Sally Livingston for her many successful efforts over the years to organize and manage the logistics of the members' “gatherings” in the Spring and Fall.  Whether a luncheon at Melody Lodge or the Inn, or a picnic at Oak Mountain or the pavilion, Sally communicated (and no doubt cajoled) with members and providers to encourage attendance and good times for all.  So much a part of the LPSA and its Board of Directors over the years, Sally's leaving was postponed for a year but ended with this year's get-togethers.  She now turns over the reins to Joni Schaffer with the continuing support of Bob Stubbs for the August picnic.  As always, volunteer members are sought and appreciated.

New Directors coming on Board

Bob Carr   -  Bob lives in Perth, NY with his wife Nancy, son Robert and two Labs.  They enjoy spending weekends, year-round, at their lake house on Echo Lake in Lake Pleasant.  Ten years ago they visited Speculator for a snowmobiling vacation, fell in love with the area, and became camp owners a year later.  Originally from Bridgewater, New Jersey, they relocated to upstate New York in 2004 when Bob took a management position with Benjamin Moore & Co. in Johnstown, New York.

Bob has a BA degree in Chemistry and a minor in economics from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey.  Bob currently serves on the Pleasant Riders Snowmobile Club Board of Directors, is co-founder and Trail Boss for Dedicated Residents for Area Grooming (D.R.A.G. of Speculator), and is the Environmental Recreation Liaison for the Adirondacks Speculator Region Chamber of Commerce.

Diane Corvetti   -  Diane Corvetti has been a year-round resident of Lake Pleasant for over 20 years and was a frequent visitor before that.  She has been a very active volunteer for a wide range of organizations and has led the Twigs of Hamilton County and the Junior Leagues of Long Island and Schenectady, as well as serving on the Boards of the Adirondacks Speculator Region Chamber of Commerce and the Volunteer Administrators Association of the Capital Region.

Mother of three children, Diane has been a leader in children's activities including Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.  Her local employment has included the Chamber and Vogel Construction Company.  She now is owner and operator of Red Pines Bed and Breakfast on Lake Pleasant, where she resides with her Yellow Lab, Reebok.

Chris Finkle   -   A lifelong summer resident of South Shore Road in Speculator, Chris Finkle has the distinction of having worked for Charlie Johns for the last summer Charlie ran the store that carries his name, and having been one of the first bartenders hired by the Swifts when they took the reins at Melody Lodge.  Son of Allan and Mary Finkle, Chris and his partner, Jennifer Macfadden were avid snowmobilers until their son Allan came along in 1994.  Jennifer's daughter Heather worked as a lifeguard at Little Sand Point campsite in Piseco, and is now raising a family in Winter Haven, Florida.  Tyler worked two summers at Charlie Johns Store, as a dishwasher last year at Swifty's Downtown Grill and is now a freshman at LeMoyne College in Syracuse, a member of their lacrosse team.  Daughter Erin Finkle was a lifeguard at the Public Beach in Speculator, waitressed at the Crazy Moose café, and received her masters from Springfield College on her way to her current position as Outdoor Recreation Director at the YMCA of the Adirondacks at Silver Bay on Lake George.

When not in residence at Cub's Cove on Lake Pleasant, Chris and Jennifer live in Syracuse, where Chris is the Principal Designer and Creative Supervisor at National Grid.

Dwight Jacobsen  -  Dwight Jacobsen has been coming to the Adirondacks since 1959.  He is a third generation Jacobsen visiting the Lake Pleasant area.  His grandparents first came here in the 1920's and his parents first date was a canoe ride on Lake Pleasant.  Dwight and his family rented for many years on Lake Pleasant and purchased property on Route 8 in Speculator about 10 years ago.

Dwight and his wife Sally have 3 children, Sara, Jamie and David.  Dwight spent 6 summers during high school and college working at Camp of the Woods as the tennis pro.  All 3 children have worked in various restaurants in Speculator during the summer months.  The Jacobsen family has lived all over the United States, currently reside in Lexington, Massachusetts, but have always considered Speculator “home.”  The Jacobsen family loves boating and waterskiing on Lake Pleasant.  They enjoy golf at the Lake Pleasant Golf club, bike riding, hiking and antiquing.

Dwight serves on the board of Lexington Christian Academy in the Boston area and is also on the Board of the Big Brother Big Sister Organization of Greater Boston.  He works for Pioneer Investments in Boston.
