REPORT CARD TIME
George
Sengenberger for LPSA
Remember report card days when you were young. If it were
a good one, you paraded it in to your parents and hoped for some
reward. If not what you knew they expected, you kind of slipped it
under other papers and hoped they might not notice. If it was really bad
you destroyed it and hoped your parents did not realize report cards
existed. When we work, we expect some kind of evaluation at a regular
interval. Tough to hide from these. Organizations also get report cards
whether from others or self imposed. The LPSA’s year runs from early
spring to fall. We are now ready for our evaluation. We are proud of it
so we won’t hide it or destroy it – we will announce it to the world.
The big item on our spring agenda was the completion of
the dock for the Village Park area. Working with the Village the LPSA
led the effort to get the dock. We used a significant portion of our
Foundation funds to match the State grant we worked to get. The result -
a very nice addition to the Village beach area and with the Village
crew’s support, it will be put out each year.
We also continued our work distributing trash containers
around the Village. Walk down Rt. 8/30 and you will see many of the LPSA
donations. This year we developed a label for each container. The labels
and six new containers should be ready by Memorial Day 2008. Grade
incomplete for now but we expect to have our homework done before the
next summer season starts.
Last year we had the Senior Center painted, and the
Seniors were very appreciative. This year we had flower boxes made and
put up at the Center. Seniors do much for our community. We are pleased
to do something for them.
Our major task is one where success is measured by not
having anything. Zero is good. That task is the Lake Steward program
which we share with the Town of Lake Pleasant and the Lake Monitoring
program which is done by many LPSA members, each checking a small
section of our lakes. This year we were perfect. We got a 0 – no
invasive weeds. Some were found on boats entering the lake at Moffits
boat ramp but they were not allowed in, thanks to our Lake Steward. We
may not always get a 0 but we will try hard every year.
In other areas we played a part, as many local business,
individuals and organizations did. We contributed to the 4th
of July parade, we purchased advertising in the ANNE OF GREEN GABLES
program and we contributed to the flowers that help beautify our main
street.
Our last grade is also incomplete but promising. We began
a process to develop a beautification program in cooperation with the
Village and the Town. Next year, we expect progress on our efforts to
create a beautiful Village Park and to see the combined Town/Village
committee develop other projects to make our area even better than it
is.
Our report card was not perfect – but we are proud of it.
You can join our efforts next year by becoming a member of LPSA and
helping out so we have an even better report card next year.
